Hi! Long time, no weeknote.

I thought I was going to just skip a week but then the longer I didn’t write, the more motivation I needed to get back to it. This is an important lesson in getting back to a habit quickly because the longer your break is, the harder it is to gain your previous momentum again.

I’ll be trying out a new format where I’ll focus on one or two main things that I’m excited about, how I’ve felt this week and then other things that happened.

I mentioned in my last weeknote that I got…

Hi! This is my first weeknote in a while! I was off work before the Easter break, then sick for a bit after that. My time off was great until I became sick, it felt so good to be at home, have childcare and just spend my time chilling, decluttering and such. I should definitely take more time off with no real plans.

Here are four things that happened, the highlights since I’ve been back….

4 things that happened

One — Consolidating Accessibility Resources

One of the insights from our last research was that people are not sure how to find accessibility resources when they need it. They are…

Hi, I’ve been quite relaxed and excited in the last 2 weeks compared to the first 2 weeks of March — I think I was just so excited about taking a break from work. It’s also been about a year since we’ve been working from home and I’m finally learning to pace myself.

I am now on leave till after Easter and I have no grand plans apart from doing nothing.

Here are some things that happened over the last 7 working days before my leave started.

5 things that happened

One — End of year performance conversations.

It’s that time of the year again, March. I spent some time making…

Hi, I hope you have been well. The last 2 weeks have been a slightly weird one for me but I thought I’d write a weeknote anyway.

I’m mentally exhausted or it seems like it. I feel particularly tired, physically and mentally. I’m triggered by the smallest thing, have very low motivation, low emotional resilience and I just feel generally stressed and overwhelmed. I’ve now booked some time off in the last week of March so hopefully, that helps.

There was a lot in the news over the last 2 weeks. Sarah Everard was kidnapped and murdered while walking home…

Hi! I hope you have been well. I seem to be settling into a 2-week cadence with my weeknote but I hope to optimise my process well enough to write them weekly again. It’s been bright and warm over the last 2 weeks, which is exciting!

Here are the highlights of the last 2 weeks.

5 things that happened

One — Synthesising ideas to keep GOV.UK accessible

In my last weeknote, I talked about generating ideas to act on insights from our research into why some parts of GOV.UK were not accessible enough.

I’ve been discussing them with the team a bit more and doing a bit of synthesis to pull them…

Hi. Whew, what a week it’s been! My toddler was home with us this week so working was a bit of a challenge.

Here are 4 things that happened in the last 2 weeks — more things happened but these are the highlights — and some of the things I’ve been thinking about

4 things that happened

One — Accessible accordions

The team did lots of work to make accordions on GOV.UK more accessible. Before our update, accordions behaved like buttons but looked like links which can make it difficult for assistive technology to find information or to activate a link/button. Also, the 3 different implementations on GOV.UK…

Hi. This weeknote almost did not happen — my motivation has been generally low, I don’t think I can explain why. Apart from that, things have been moving along quite nicely.

Here are 4 things that happened in the last week, more things happened but these are the highlights and some of the things I’ve been thinking about

4 things that happened

One — How might we act on insights from the research?

We had a team playback session to talk about and reflect on the insights from our research to understand why some parts of GOV.UK were not accessible enough. We also spent some time thinking about how we might act on the insights.

Hello! Last week was a 4 day week for me, I’m always excited about those. Also, I started a Circles for growth substack to write specifically about small circles, why and how I’ve started one, why they are great and what we get up to.

Here are 3 things that happened in the last week, more things happened but these are the highlights and some of the things I’ve been thinking about

3 things that happened

One — Research Analysis

We did some research interviews last year to understand why some parts of GOV.UK were not accessible enough. A user researcher from another team ran a group analysis…

First weeknote of 2021 so Happy New Year!

I had a long restful break over Christmas but I’ve been back at work since the 4th of January. Here are the highlights of the last 2 weeks and some of the things I’ve been thinking about

4 things that happened

One — Kick off for the quarter

To kickstart the year and quarter, we planned a series of kick-off events. One of them was a product kick off session to look back over the work we’ve done in the last 6 months and the work we plan to do this quarter. I put together a summary of the scale and the impact…

Hello! It’s the end of the year and what a year it has been. I’m glad I started writing weeknotes sometime in July and stuck with it.

I’m also incredibly proud of what my team has achieved this year and so blessed to have the opportunity to work with such amazing people on GOV.UK

I am now off till the new year. Here are the highlights of my last 2 weeks (5 working days)

5 things that happened

One — We published “How we made GOV.UK more accessible”

I’ve mentioned a few times that I’ve been working on a blog post talking about how we made GOV.UK accessible. It has now been published!

GOV.UK…
